The students of CSUMB Projects of Environmental Education made our first trip to Los Arboles Middle School to meet the students and learn more about their personalities and interests. We were first introduced to the students who were told about our goal at their school. Then we were led through a game of four corners where we showed our personal interests, opinions, and characteristics. We then had the chance as college students to break the students out of their comfort zone a bit by doing a dance circle so they could see us more as fellow students instead as teachers. Our main goal of our trip was for the students to take small groups of college students around the school and show them areas where they spend the most time with their friends, the outdoor classroom where we will be working the most on projects, and an area of the school where the students might want to improve or change. This experience showed us more about how the students perceived us and their interests in things such as the environment. We did learn that most of the students did not spend a lot of time outside and some did not have the desire to. However, this gave us the chance to see if they had not been involved in a lot of outdoor projects or if they did not have any interest in doing so.
