Core Competencies

Teamwork is "behaviors under the control of individual team members (effort they put into team tasks, their manner of interacting with others on the team, and the quantity and quality of contributions they make to team discussions.)" AA&U
My group and I have completed our capstone project at Los Arboles Middle School and over the past few months, I have developed more of my core competencies as well as teamwork. Teamwork is an essential aspect of this project involving a large group of people and our capstone project. Teamwork means having the ability to contribute to a group as an individual to better the outcome of a project. In our group, we had to integrate a large amount of teamwork because of our group of 15 people. In order to ensure that our project ran smoothly, we had to be able to work together as individuals to get the work done.
Global Learning is "a critical analysis of and an engagement with complex, interdependent global systems and legacies (such as natural, physical, social, cultural, economic, and political) and their implications for people’s lives and the earth’s sustainability" AA&U
Global learning is the ability to engage with global systems and evaluate the implications for people's lives as well as how it contributes to the sustainability of the earth. Since living in multiple places in my life and being able to travel to different countries I have had the ability to experience and live in different cultures. My ability to understand different aspects of communities has helped me to work well in different environments that might not be where I am acclimated. This helps me to share different experiences that I might have with another person. I was able to use this experience this year while working with both middle school students at Los Arboles Middle School as well as elementary students at Hall District Elementary who were a large amount English as a second language students. Just because These students might have different lifestyles from me does not mean we cannot have shared experiences together.
Creative Thinking is "Both the capacity to combine or synthesize existing ideas, images, or expertise in original ways and the experience of thinking, reacting, and working in an imaginative way characterized by a high degree of innovation, divergent thinking, and risk-taking" AAC&U
Creative thinking is being able to explore new issues, events, and ideas before having an opinion or end result through thinking. To learn and work with different people, it can be useful to use creative thinking so that ideas are unique and there are different ideas flowing. When working on projects such as climate action and outdoor classrooms you have to be able to use the resources you are given and not have limitations on the things that you are teaching students. Having the freedom to design lessons that are flexible also allows students to have creative thinking abilities because their activities are limitless.
